Artist Spotlight: Miranda van Dijk
I’m always searching for artists and designers that use vintage in interesting ways. I find them so inspirational for my own design work. I recently came across the work of a Dutch artist, Miranda van Dijk. She has created a collection of leaf shaped fabric jewelry and accessories using vintage photographs. Her collection, called Hidden Memories, is featured in her Etsy shop PuurAnders.
Miranda creates leaves to frame, small flower brooches, and necklaces with vintage photos she’s collected. She will also design custom work featuring a vintage photograph of your choice. To create her handmade pieces, Miranda prints old photographs onto fabric. She then turns them into different kinds of leaves.
A large flower clip printed on cotton fabric and made from an old photograph. The photograph is of a “kissing couple” and was found in the attic of Miranda’s grandfather.
A custom made maple leaf pendant necklace using a photo of your choice.
A flower headband, printed with an old photograph, called ”First Steps” found in Miranda’s attic.
A custom made leaf brooch using a photograph of your choice.
According to Miranda, her work is “inspired by the connection between nature and humankind”. If that isn’t enough to get my own creative juices moving, I don’t know what is.
