Trend Tuesday: Back to School Treats
Just in case you haven’t heard yet, summer is coming to an end and school is right around the corner. In some areas, many kids have already started classes again. Even though I always loved going back to school, I definitely had my fair share of students who were reluctant to let summer disappear. In order to make the transition back easier (and yummier) for everyone, this week’s party trend focuses on tasty back to school treats. They’re perfect for a welcome to school party or just a simple treat to serve up when the little ones get home after the first big day back.

Smiley Apple Cookie Pops
Can you imagine how excited your little one would be to find something so cute smiling up at them on the first day of school? They look so happy. Made from chocolate dipped Oreos, their little faces are made from brown M&M candies and sculpted Jolly Ranchers. How creative!

This word inspired cake reminds me of the many rainy days spent playing Scrabble during indoor recess. The fun part is that, unlike the board game, this cake is edible! You can write any words that you want. I think I’ll eat the “H”.

Apple for the Teacher Cupcakes
From the sequel of one of my favorite inspirational cookbooks, What’s New Cupcake?, this creative apple cupcake is sure to have your child’s teacher excited with its sweetness. Created from a regular cupcake, what do you think is on top? A mini chocolate donut, of course! Karen Tack is always full of sweet surprises.

Inside Out Caramel Apples
These caramel filled apples remind me chocolate covered caramel fudge… if that even existed. They’re made from Dulce de Leche and coated in red chocolate candy melts. I just want to sink my teeth into a slice!

What’s special about these back to school cupcakes isn’t the cake on the inside, but how fun the decorations are on top! A red Skittle makes the apple, a chocolate covered graham cracker for the blackboard and, for a finishing touch, a white Good and Plenty as the chalk. You just need to pipe your special back to school message onto the black board!
They all look so delicious, I think it’s going to be hard to choose which one to try first. It might have to be the apple cupcake, though. Mr. Mountaineer loves his mini donuts and the idea is so creative!
